Lakewood is blessed with a creative, diverse, and energetic music program. Approximately a third of the worship experience involves singing and worshiping through music. Lakewood views music in worship as a way to enhance and broaden our experience of God. Music offers a variety of paths for worship, contemplation, and reflection. Through music we can affirm our faith, encourage and challenge one another. Lakewood's worship reflects the diversity of ways music can be used to experience and praise God and reflects its diverse congregation.
Our choir is under the direction of Carrie Forehand.
The Lakewood Chancel Choir rehearses each Wednesday evening at 7pm in the Music Rehearsal Room. The Chancel Choir sings at the 10:30am worship service each week and at other special occasions throughout the year.
The Lakewood Cantata Choir , consisting of members of the Lakewood Chancel Choir and others from the church and community, performs large choral works, often accompanied by orchestra, for special events each year such as the annual Christmas Cantata.
The Chancel choir has also joined with other Waco Disciples Church Choirs to present large choral works for an annual joint Maundy Thursday Service. These works include Theodore Dubois' Seven Last Words of Christ and Joseph Martin's cantatas Song of the Shadows and Color's of Grace .
The Lakewood Handbell Program includes the Lakewood Ringers, Solos and Small Group Ringers. The most recently formed is the Children's Chime Choir. These individuals and groups rehearse each week in the Music Rehearsal Room and are under the direction of Brad Forehand. They perform regularly during worship services throughout the year and for special occasions.
