At Lakewood Christian Church, it is our hope that you will experience God’s love and grace as you share in worship, fellowship, study, and mission. You are cordially invited to join Lakewood Christian in its congregational life and common ministry. Please feel free to contact our church staff if you have any questions or if we can be of support to you in your faith journey.
While many people are active in the Lakewood Christian Community without officially joining the church, there are several ways in which persons may unite with this church family.
A person may:
• transfer their membership from another church tradition, joining by a “reaffirmation of faith”
• affiliate with this church is by making a profession of faith in Jesus Christ and being baptized by immersion
• associate or “dual” membership for those who are attending a college or university and want to make Lakewood Christian their “home” church away from home or who may want to maintain a relationship with another church for family or personal reasons
Regardless of one’s membership “category,” all members of the church enjoy the same privileges and responsibilities as we seek to grow in the likeness of Christ, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.
About the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
From the homepage of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Office of Communication:
Deep Christian Spirituality
Christian spirituality is a way of life that relates who and what we are to who and what God is as revealed in Jesus Christ and as experienced through the Holy Spirit. We encourage one another in the spiritual disciplines, practices through which we open ourselves to being shaped by God….
A Passion for Justice
Disciples ministries don’t stop at the front door of the church building. …
What do Disciples Believe?
Like most Christians, Disciples affirm:
- Jesus Christ is the Son of the Living God and offers saving grace to all.
- All persons are God’s children. (more)
The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is a Protestant denomination of approximately 800,000 members in the United States and Canada. It’s one of the largest faith groups founded on American soil.
“At the table of the Lord we celebrate with thanksgiving the saving acts and presence of Christ” — From the Preamble of the Design for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Lakewood Christian Church is part of the TRINITY BRAZOS AREA of the CHRISTIAN CHURCH (Disciples of Christ). The denomination was founded almost 200 years ago in the United States and is the first indigenous denomination to be founded in America .
To that end, there are no creeds, doctrines, or ethical positions taken by the church. Instead, emphasis is placed on personal responsibility in developing one’s beliefs and morals as we each grow in our faith in Jesus Christ, and in love for all people. Personal freedom and “unity amidst diversity” are highly valued in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and this is certainly true at Lakewood Christian – “An open door to a vital faith” since 1957.
